Fitness

4/18/2013

I decided to add a fitness page to my blog, mostly for personal reasons so I could track my fitness goals, but also to encourage others to achieve fitness/weight-loss goals for themselves and hopefully we can also keep each other accountable through this lifestyle change.

Confession time: I am an emotional eater, and have been for most of my life. When I get nervous, tired, grumpy, stressed, moody or Aunt Flo comes for a visit, I go all out of control on the chocolate, sweet stuff, or pretty much anything I can get my hands on.

Now, many of you are thinking, but she doesn't look like an emotional eater!! No...I happen to really enjoy working out and have been fairly active most of my life, so I burn a lot of calories that way. I just completed my first marathon last December and am training for a triathlon in June. But I have been feeling very convicted lately about abusing my body with consuming high amounts of fat and sugar and want to get that part of my life under control.

So, every Sunday until my triathlon on June 9th, I will be tracking my fitness goals. That is my short term goal. We will have to see what happens after the triathlon.

I currently weigh 160lbs, am 5ft 8in. My fitness goals are losing 15 lbs so I can reach my goal weight of 145lbs. Every week, my plan is to lose 1-2 lbs, which in my opinion is a healthy weight-loss. I am going to track my calories on a calorie app on my phone every day to make sure I am within a healthy range, but also won't stress if for some reason I go over a day or two. It's all about baby steps to reach this new lifestyle change, and I have tried so many times in the past  and have failed every time because my priorities are out of wack. I am trying to get healthy for the wrong reasons. I want to have a healthy body so that I can have more energy throughout the day, but above all else to honor God.

I am sick and tired of trying to lose this weight to "look good" or for my own selfish reasons. I want to have a healthier lifestyle so I can be a blessing to someone else, and also develop better habits/self-control in my life that it is currently lacking. I will be starting to do a morning devotional before the rest of the family wakes up, so I can start my day off right with spending time with the Lord and make Him my priority instead of more sleep, more workouts, etc.

I've got the cardio portion down in my day to day workouts during the week. I am definitely lacking in the strength training department. So I want to spend some time in the weight room 3 times a week, doing both upper-body and lower-body exercises. I also want to add an exercise class from the gym to my cardio routine, so a couple of weeks ago I started a spin class once a week.

I'm hoping by making these positive changes in my life, I will have a better chance of attaining these weight goals, but also honor God throughout this process and let Him guide me throughout my days.

Happy Healthy Fitness!!
